Alicante Airport (ALC) Information
Alicante Airport(IATA: ALC, ICAO: LEAL), originally named El Altet, is the sixth busiest airport in Spain, and the main airport for the Province of Alicante and the Region of Murcia. The airport is situated 9 km southwest of Alicante and 10 km east of Elche in the municipality of Elche on Mediterranean coast. The new terminal 1 (formerly Terminal 3) is a brand new terminal at Alicante Airport, which opened on 23 March 2011, and flight operations started on the following day. The terminal was built to increase tourism around the Costa Blanca, and to expand the airport due to increasing number of passengers. It is adjacent to Terminal 1 and it has an area of 333,500m², which is more than six times the size of Terminal 1 & Terminal 2 put together. The terminal is split into two areas, the processor where the C Gates will be held, and the dock where the majority of B Gates will be held. The terminal will be able to handle 20 million passengers a year. Flights to schengen areas will use both areas in the terminal whilst flights to non-schengen areas will only use the dock. This terminal is to be adjacent to Terminal 1. All flights will transfered to this terminal on 24 March 2011 as Termimal 1 and terminal 2 closed.
