Barcelona Airport (BCN) - aka El Prat Airport
The airport was the first one in Catalonia and second in size following Madrid-Barajas Airport. It surves as the main hub for Spanair and Vueling Airlines and a focus city for Air Europa and Iberia Airlines. The airport mainly serves domestic, European and North African destinations, also having minor flights to Southeast Asia, Latin America and North America.
In recent years the traffic of low-cost airlines has grown significantly, especially after the creation of operating bases by Vueling and Clickair at the airport. Vueling and Clickair merged in July 2009, now they operate under the name of Vueling. There are other low-cost airlines operating from the airport including easyJet and WizzAir.
There is a new Terminal 1 providing better services to customers and airline operators. In T1, once they pass the boarding gate, passengers must locate the baggage reclaim carousel associated with their flight. Passengers coming from a non Schengen country must go through passport control before entering the baggage reclaim hall. If they are coming from a Schengen country, on their route towards the exit, passengers will pass through the Sky Centre to get to the baggage reclaim hall. The baggage reclaim hall is used for all flights from both Schengen and non Schengen destinations. After collecting their luggage, passengers will leave the baggage reclaim area and will enter La Plaza, the waiting point for those accompanying them and the gateway between T1, the public car park, the intermodal lobby and the taxi, bus, shuttles and vehicle hire services.
T2 has three baggage reclaim halls situated on the ground floor of each of its three areas: A, B and C. The T2 general lobby can be accessed from these areas.
